RECLAPS team experienced a wonderful camping and forest walking in Kayyeni Eco farm in Attappadi. The trip was as a part of our learning process on environmental protection and waste management. The team had a beautiful time contemplating on mother nature and rejuvenating their mind, body, and soul.
Kayyeni Eco farm is in Attappadi forest, Palakkad district, Kerala. Attappadi is a part of Nilgiri biosphere with many species of plants and wild animals and inhabited by tribal people belonging to ‘Irula’, ‘Muduga’, and ‘Kurumba’ tribes. The region is also famous for its beautiful landscapes and tribal culture.
The eco farm is spread in 15 acres of organic farm surrounded by forest and its stream. It is a centre for conserving indigenous culture of the land and its flora and fauna. The name Kayyeni came from an indigenous paddy crop cultivated here. It is said that there are 200 species of birds and butterflies in the region. This fertile land drew attention of people from neighboring areas who migrated here and owned the land.
We camped on night in the forest listening to the soothing sounds trees, birds, and streams. Around 15 kilometres of nature walk through the forest crossing rivers and climbing hills was one the best experiences of our life. This journey taught us many lessons that we never learnt in schools or colleges.
RECLAPS is in its journey to be the best company providing waste management service in Thrissur. This camp and the amazing experiences and learnings it gave was an asset to this journey. It revived RECLAPS’s energy and enthusiasm and helped reaffirm our oath to protect the nature and this beautiful planet.
